Pledge allegiance to the five R'sFebruary 10, 2012If you're serious about reducing waste, make official.
The Comox Strathcona waste management (CSWM) service and the Comox Valley Conservation Strategy (CVCS) are calling on people to show their love for the earth this Valentine’s Day by signing an online pledge for waste reduction.
It's not a financial commitment, only a commitment to the five R's and a reduced ecological footprint. "Rethink, Refuse, Reduce, Reuse and Recycle," lists Koreen Gurak from the Comox Valley Regional District. "With Valentine's Day coming up it's not always about buying materialistic stuff for other people, it's about doing something good for the community and our planet. It's a good time for people to think about what they can do to make some small behavioural changes that can make a really big difference." The Comox Strathcona Waste Management (CSWM) service is a function of the Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD) and is responsible for two regional waste management centres that serve the Comox Valley and Campbell River. The CSWM service manages over 100,000 tonnes of waste and recycled material.
“By taking the pledges you can replace a sense of powerlessness with a sense of action and hope,” said Kerry Dawson, education coordinator for the Comox Valley Conservation Strategy. “Join a community of people who care and want to become a part of the solution for a better future.”
The CSWM's “Solution to Zero Waste” pledge focuses on the five R's, while the CVCS “Count Me In” pledge supports a more sustainable community through further reducing our ecological footprint in areas such as energy and water.
