Over 100 people attended BC Hydro's open house at the Maritime Heritage Center last night, In hopes of finding out more information on the proposed 1.3 billion dollar project, The John Hart generating station replacement.

Stephan Watson, Hydro’s community spokesman says the response from Campbell River was excellent.

“I think it’s just another opportunity for the community to check in on where the project is at and where it’s going. “There is a lot of community support and we really appreciate that.”

The project is before the board of directors and a decision will be made sometime near the end of this month.

City Councilor Andy Adams has been on the project liaison four years. He says the project could not have come at a better time for Campbell River.

“Well we are hurting from the loss of major industrial tax base; this project can provide a bridge until we can reestablish some of that resource sector or medium or light industry to build that tax base back up.”

BC Hydro estimated over 2,000 local jobs created over five years if approved. Construction would start in the summer of 2013.
